I have owned a 2008 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 since 2014, and I just can’t part with it. From track to touring, the C63 is one of the best cars I’ve ever driven. I’ve driven many cars, but this one sets a benchmark that few can match. Despite being 16 years old, most people think it’s new due to its exceptional build quality. The interior features quality materials, with leather everywhere, low-reflective surfaces, and a functional and expandible entertainment system.
The C63 is a luxury family muscle car, boasting 336 kW (451 hp) of power and 600 Nm of torque. The sensational 6.2L engine, the first V8 designed autonomously by Mercedes-AMG, drives this beast. It handles like a new sports car and accelerates like a rocket, going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. With massive torque and power, it’s quiet and comfortable at low revs but transforms into a beast in sport or manual mode. The magnesium paddles let you downshift like an F1 pro, hitting a redline over 7000 rpm. The high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 is a masterpiece, no wonder they still use this engine in their GT3 models.
There are downsides, of course. As a Mercedes, the performance parts are expensive when something goes wrong. It also consumes fuel at a prodigious rate, but no one buys this car for its fuel efficiency. The auto transmission can take a moment to engage initially, but it’s responsive once you’re driving. The traction control is simple but can be adjusted or turned off entirely if you are outright certifiable..
I firmly believe this car is a classic, and its value will appreciate. The refined details, from the dials to the ride quality, are top-notch. Adding Michelin Pilot Sport tyres enhanced its performance even further. However, be warned: once you drive a true fire-breathing, naturally aspirated monster like this, you might never want to switch to an EV.
Is it really that good? Yes, it is. It’s a stunner from an era before touch screens, with everything you need at the touch of a button. The car sounds incredible outside yet never overpowering inside, thanks to its thoughtful design and sound muffling. Weighing around 1650 kg, it offers ride quality and creature comforts that surpass most cars from its time and even today.
