M2 2022 Watch Guide: IWC Schaffhausen
Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Ceratanium
IWC Schaffhausen has been bringing out Top Gun models thick and fast this year. To cap off the collection is a black ceramic model as well as the first 41-millimetre model made of Ceratanium. Ceratanium is a new material which is light and robust like titanium, but hard and scratch resistant like ceramic. The first time we saw this material in action was on the Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph
TOP GUN Ceratanium in 2019 and its success has meant its return with this latest time-piece. Not to be entirely outdone by the shell, the IWC 69385 calibre chronograph movement is clearly viewable through the case back of the watch made of sapphire glass. It contains 33 jewels and has a power reserve of 36 hours. It’s still protected though; an inner soft-iron case protects the movements from magnetic fields and the front glass is protected from sudden drops in air pressure.
Holding the piece firm on your wrist is a black rubber strap with textile inlay. The integrated EasX-CHANGE makes swapping the strap a breeze.
Portofino Chronograph 39 Edition “Laureus Sport for Good”
The Portofino Chronograph 39 Edition is an extremely exclusive piece. Only 1,000 pieces have been made and each comes fitted on a black calfskin strap. On the back is an engraving by the winning entry from the Laureus program, which is dedicated to using sport for young people to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage. This timepiece marks the 16th collaboration and features a dial with the typical Laureus blue which contrasts beautifully with the rhodium-plated hands and appliques. It’s built with a stainless steel case and comes in a comfortable 39mm fit.
It’s an elegantly refined timepiece which is also working for a good cause. Perfect.
