The NZ Food Trend of 2019 is Bugs
Diets are always hard for guys to get into when weight-loss is concerned. The risk of whether they’ll work or not at reducing the ‘beer belly’ seems to hang heavy on many dieting minds. Have you ever thought of combining an insect into the mix?
A food trend expected to be hitting menus around New Zealand next year, this is a new, slightly freaky way to cut the carbs. High in protein and other minerals, such as iron, zinc, and magnesium, insects, like larvae, can give you 10 times more iron than 100 grams of beef.
This new food trend is fast becoming a national obsession with people eating a range of caterpillars and beetles. Most insects contain a protein called chitin that encourages healthy bacteria to grow in your stomach. A number of companies in Auckland are now importing insects to feature on trendy, designer menus. Companies like Crawlers currently purchase insects from Thailand and sell them on their website in kooky ways. Sooner or later, expect to see these creepy insects crawling onto high-end menus.
