Editor’s Letter – October 2019
As a small nation, in the relative scheme of things, we always tend to anchor our global success with a slight irreverence. We do celebrate that we punch above our weight, but even this kind of statement is a little bit limiting. The fact is that across a number of areas, sports like rugby and yachting, but also other highly competitive fields like technology and entertainment and business, we aren’t just punching slightly above our heads. Our ideas and our perspective is shaping the world around us.
Our cover man, Taika Waititi, now is able to now share our stories with the world in big budget, possible Oscar-contention fashion. Also, in the issue we feature again the co-founder of Soul Machines, Greg Cross, who at our last Success Summit, spoke about the need to build a global company and set it up for global success.
The really cool thing about what a company like Soul Machines are doing is that they are taking local, groundbreaking university-based research and are building a framework that will help change our connection with computers across a range of industries, from banking to airlines to gaming and movies. No doubt opening up the potential for many more possibilities for a whole lot of verticals along the way. Screw the punching above our weight thing. We are shaping the world.
