THREE BOOKS TO READ THIS MONTH
Three Days And A Life
Pierre Lemaitre
Reading this book for me was like watching a great arthouse film. Lemaitre, who Stephen King says is “a really excellent suspense novelist”, had me gripped from the opening pages. I really felt for our lead character and wondered what was he going to do. How do you deal with something like that? Through the multiple twists, turns, close shaves and eventual “ah-ha” moment, I really enjoyed the journey of reading this book, even though at times it had me on the edge of my bed – 5/5 from me.
The Romanov Ransom
Clive Cussler and Robin Burcell
The is the latest adventure for our treasure hunting team of Mr & Mrs Fargo, which sees them chasing missing royal treasures from 1918. This yarn takes them from Europe to North Africa and South America in search of a plane buried under years of snow and ice. They work the clues, track down the leads, avoid the bullets, bad guys and, at times, the good guys as well! Cussler knows how to build momentum; never a dull moment – 4/5 for this one.
Fifty Fifity
James Patterson and Candice Fox
You can see why Patterson is one of the top-selling authors in the world; he and his partners write great books. Great characters and storyline make this a hard-to-put-down book. Set in Australia, the plot is split between Sydney and a small town of 75 people called Last Chance. I read the paperback version and found the font size and layout really easy to read and relax into; it’s annoying when you get books where the font or the margins are too small. Patterson and Fox deliver, as do the design team – I have no choice but to give it a 5/5.
