There Are Only 5,500 Of This Limited Edition Seiko Watch

If you were looking for a timepiece to celebrate the end of 2020 and the journey ahead, we first need to go back to the 70s to simpler, more reliable times for inspiration. That’s exactly where Seiko went for its reimagining of the 1970 Diver’s Prospex, the SPB183J. The limited edition Seiko design calls back to the highly collectible 6105, known as the ‘Captain Willard’ and is released as a limited number of 5,500 pieces globally.

Apart from being ever so slightly larger than the original, it’s a faithful recreation in every other aspect of its design. Powered by the new Calibre 6R35, it’s a step up from the previous 6R15, offering an extra 20 hours of power reserve, up to 70.

The case is built with a super hard coating of stainless steel and a dual-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating for perfect clarity and strength. This solid build design makes it perfectly suited for everyday wear.

As well as the timeless stainless steel strap, it also comes with an additional blue silicone strap rendered with a satin finish. The blue matches the dial, which broods in darkness but really pops in sunlight.

As well as its 200 metres of water resistance, the dials and hour and second hands are super legible, belying its use as a diver’s tool. But for an extra pop of class, the central seconds hand is rendered in a gold tone and tipped with a luminescent pentagon.

While 2020 itself may not have been the most reliable year, it’s nice to have something on the wrist you can really rely on.
