The Highlights Of The Lexus Urban Polo

It’s the sport that epitomises high culture, grace and class. No, I’m not talking about pub darts, I am of course talking about the wonderful sport of polo, which was the talk of the town last weekend in Auckland as the Lexus Urban Polo rolled in and drew a fantastic local crowd of classy folk looking to take in exhilarating sporting experience (and maybe an excuse to debut a sharp new fit and have a couple glasses of bubbles on a Saturday afternoon). 

Yes, the drinks were flowing (at a responsible rate, of course) and a collection of local DJ’s had the accompanying tunes going all day long. As for what was going on the field, the teams were playing under f3polo rules, a contemporary adaptation of the game played with less players on a smaller field, designed to create a more frenetic pace to the game, making it more accessible to the uninitiated viewer, not dissimilar to rugby sevens or Fast5 Netball formats. The matches were excellent and while plenty likely went in knowing as much about polo as they did about sailing a few months ago, the thrilling games on the field are sure to have converted more than a few new fans. 

There was plenty else going on to keep everyone entertained including a bit of celebrity spotting, with Kiwi icon Dan Carter making an appearance (possibly scouting a team for his next sporting chapter, this time on horseback). Of course, most importantly, the fancy fits, the wonderful weather (which put in a performance almost as good as the men and women on the horses) and some cracking backdrops created a perfect storm for photo opportunities, so enjoy your social media feeds being clogged with well dressed, sun tanned and maybe slightly glassy eyed pictures of your friends for the next couple of weeks. Jokes aside, the event was a resounding success and made for a fine day’s entertainment at Auckland Domain. They’re due to be back in ‘22 and if this years event was anything to go by, we can’t wait to do it all again.
