Dr. Harold Hillman: Helping Kiwi Businesses Navigate Change
Running a business is no picnic and riding the ups and downs can be a tumultuous experience for those in the big seat. One of the biggest challenges for a business and its leadership is managing significant change, as it is these uncertain periods that can make or break a business going forward. This is why consulting services can be so influential during these times. The fresh perspective of an expert outsider can prove incredibly beneficial and help a business uncover opportunities that can float right past the radar of someone already locked in day-to-day. Sigmoid Curve Consulting Group are an Auckland-based outfit that look to fill that role and help guide organisations through periods of change so that they can achieve their absolute ideal outcome. The consultancy operates under a philosophy inspired by the ‘sigmoid curve’, centering around the idea that, despite the inclination for companies to ‘stay the course’ with a structure and formula that has not yet hit its peak, sometimes the best time to reevaluate is during this growth curve. Offering services ranging from executive coaching to learning development programmes to conference and public speaking training, Sigmoid Curve has assisted an impressively long and varied selection of prominent New Zealand businesses and entities. Notable names on this list include Foodstuffs, Auckland Airport, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, TVNZ, The Warehouse and multiple regional districts councils, among many others.
At the head and heart of Sigmoid Curve is its Managing Director, Dr. Harold Hillman, PhD. Hillman’s list of credentials is lengthy, beginning in academia where, as a young man, he earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Harvard University and subsequently, his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Hillman then spent an extended period of time serving his country in the United States Air Force and played an instrumental role, as a member of a taskforce appointed by then-President Bill Clinton, in affecting policy related to undoing a longstanding ban on homosexuals serving in the US military. Following his service, Hillman worked in various industry roles, most notably as Chief Learning Officer for New Jersey-based Prudential Financial. In 2003, Hillman packed up and brought his talents here to Aotearoa and joined up with emerging company Fonterra, serving as Director of Talent and Organisational Development for four years, before deciding to take the plunge in starting his own venture, founding Sigmoid Curve in 2006. His influence extends to many areas of the company, as several of Sigmoid Curve’s key services are led by Hillman himself, in addition to his regular video tutorials and podcasts which are available on the Sigmoid Curve website.
Hillman is also a successful author, having independently written two books and co-authored two others. His first effort, The Impostor Syndrome, was particularly well received and was named Whitcoulls Business Book of the Year for 2013.
We at M2 are delighted to have the pleasure of including Dr. Harold Hillman, PhD as one of the nine speakers at our upcoming M2 Summit. Check out the M2 Summit website for more info and to grab your tickets.
