5 Comedy Gigs Coming Soon You Can’t Miss
I wanted to write something about the silly season being upon us, but it made me cringe out of my own skin. I now sit here, as a disturbing skeleton in my office, to offer you a plethora of comedians descending upon New Zealand to celebrate the 2023 Best Foods Comedy Gala. I think we could use it right about now! Here are just a few of the big names with tickets still available that should be on your radar right now!
If this list doesn’t do it for you, then SOMEONE on the Comedy Gala’s list will.
Melanie Bracewell – Forget Me Not
Melanie Bracewell is someone you’re probably going to see around town or on the airwaves at some point, as some of Auckland’s local talent she’s a comedian, writer and radio announcer. Like a triple threat! Those are three of my favourite kinds of threats because none of them involve knives but at least one of them involves killing me with laughter anyway.
According to Bracewell “This show is about desperately trying to be remembered, love, and eggs.”
Coming off the back of a sellout season in Australia she’s back in NZ to take some names.
She’s performing between the 11th and 27th of May in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.
Frankie McNair – Relax Your Knees
Frankie may not be super well known yet but she will be. Her Relax Your Knees show won “Best Newcomer” last year at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, which officially makes her an award winning comedian, writer and actor based in Naarm/Melbourne.
Her show is best summarized as “just Frankie McNair screaming her favourite jokes for fifty-five minutes and having too much fun in a grubby mix of stand-up, non-sequitur sketch comedy and unbridled joy”.
Her show is running from the 9th till the 13th at the Q Theatre, Cellar in Auckland.
Dylan Moran – We Got This
The eternally disheveled Dylan Moran needs no introduction. So I won’t. That’s it. That’s all the sizzle you’re getting for your show Moran!
Running two shows in Wellington and Auckland on the 23rd and 26th respectively.
Sara Pascoe – Success Story
Sara Pascoe has more than proved herself hosting Live at the Apollo and touring both TV and the world. Success Story is her brand new show and we can’t wait to check it out.
Pascoe is performing from the 11th till the 13th in Auckland and Wellington.
Ed Byrne – If I’m Honest
Ed Byrne’s a household name where his mum lives, but he’s also been on BBC’s Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, The Pilgrimage, Top Gear and QI. If I’m Honest is a show that’s been touring a lot in Europe over covid, and now Byrne gets to drag it here to New Zealand. The show, not covid.
Chris Parker – Lots of Love
As far as I’m concerned Chris Parker was the comedian of Covid lockdown with his consistently hilarious skits he was knocking out onto instagram almost every day. It’s great having someone who can tap into what we’re all thinking, and his show is bound to be a cracker also.
He’s performing on the 17th and 27th of May in Auckland and Wellington respectively
