Choosing the Road to Growth
The last six months have been big for me. I launched my personal high-end insurance brokerage business – Broadbent – and put a firecracker under my existing brokerage – Evergreen Life.
The learning curve has been massive but the personal and financial growth has been well worth it.
One of the biggest takeaways of the growth process so far has been around mindset and the shift I had to make in my own head before I could take action in real life and get results.
Here are my three key learnings about what it takes to catapult your mind and business to the next level:
You can’t buy self belief – the most important ingredient for success
I’ve been running my own successful insurance brokerage as a solo advisor for 15 years.
I never wanted to take on staff and grow. I would tell myself, “No I don’t want to have extra guys on, I don’t want to have to deal with staff”, and so on.
But the thing is, if you tell yourself something enough times, it becomes your reality. So what I was doing was poisoning my mind by convincing myself that I couldn’t manage people.
It all changed when a friend approached me and asked if he could work with me. My first reaction was “No, not interested.” And then I thought, “You know what? Why not give him a chance?”
The great thing about the way I’ve got my business set up is that I have developed an easy system that I can teach people how to replicate. It’s a system that can improve their lives because of the potential they’ve got to make a fantastic income while helping others. And that’s what got me excited. The fact that I could make a bigger impact.
Change is essential – you can’t keep doing what you’re doing to get to the next level
Leverage is key if you want to grow your business.
When I got my head around hiring people and actually being a business owner, I dived in boots and all.
Within four months I’d hired four guys for my Evergreen Life insurance business.
I’ve moved into a mentoring role and my team are on the ground closing deals. They reach far more people than I ever could by myself. The results we’re getting are fantastic and it’s incredibly exciting.
Jump in and enjoy the ride
When all the critical pieces are in place (and it’s never going to be perfect) – the next part is to surround yourself with great people and buckle in. It’s a wild but rewarding ride.
Often the difference between a successful man and a failure is not one’s better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on his ideas, to take a calculated risk and to act. – Maxwell Maltz
