Weaving a Legacy of Style
In the fleeting world of fashion where trends often vanish as swiftly as they appear, New Zealand style icon, parisian has stood as a beacon of sophisticated sartorialism for over a century. Founded in 1919, this family-owned business making ties and belts, these days under the guidance of John Crompton, the fourth in line, represents a rare blend of tradition and a keen understanding of contemporary fashion.
John’s approach to design is deeply rooted in time-honoured principles: the belief that true sophistication lies in a harmonious blend of textures and colours, and those crucial details that elevate a look from ordinary to extraordinary. Yet, he is acutely aware of the ever-changing nature of fashion, seamlessly integrating this understanding into Parisian’s ethos.
Growing up in the family business, John’s early years were shaped by the sights and sounds of the workshop, fostering a deep appreciation for the craft of tie-making. This foundation, enriched by his exposure to global fashion trends and diverse cultures, has greatly influenced Parisian’s identity, merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary influences. Each Parisian creation is a testament to this philosophy. Their ties and belts are more than mere accessories; they are the culmination of a century’s worth of craftsmanship and an understanding of the evolving world of fashion. The company’s operations mirror this adaptability, with a flexible approach that allows them to respond creatively to the ever-changing demands of the fashion industry.
Reflecting on Parisian’s journey through a hundred years, John views the brand’s evolution with a blend of pride and respect for the legacy he has inherited. Navigating the unpredictable currents of fashion trends, Parisian has remained faithful to its core values, balancing classic elegance with contemporary relevance. In an industry often characterised by transience, Parisian stands out as a symbol of enduring style and quality, a testament to the lasting appeal of well-crafted fashion.
Parisian – 1919 Collection
Named after the year the founder’s daughter, Ruby sewed the first tie, Parisian’s 1919 collection is a celebration of opulent silks. Weaving a palette of indulgent colour through rich and detailed textures, bold florals and intricate paisleys epitomise the collection’s aesthetic.
Like an artist’s print, each tie is hand-numbered as part of a coveted limited edition.
The 1919 collection is presented in a satin-lined canvas bag. Designed for travel, the tie can be kept neatly rolled within luggage, but also adds that special touch for gifting.
