An Unholy Combination: Nike x McDonald’s
Nike has dropped the Book 2 x McDonald’s “Sedona”. Astute readers might note that bold teal would not be the first colour you would choose for a McDonald’s shoe. Maybe red. Maybe yellow. But that would be too easy. They would be expecting it, and besides, do you want to look cool or like a clown? No offence, Ronald. The shoes celebrate one McDonald’s in particular, in Sedona, Arizona. The city’s red-rock scenery led local officials and the community to push for turquoise rather than golden arches, and McDonald’s relented. The result is branding that complements the landscape instead of screaming over it. The off-white sections of the shoe also reference the building.
A few other McDonald’s locations around the world depart from the standard branding. The Champs-Élysées restaurant in Paris, for example, uses a white logo.
The Book 2 x McDonald’s “Sedona” has a US retail price of $155.
