Yes, fellas, it’s that time again. It’s very nearly Valentine’s Day and with Valentine’s Day comes the immense pressure of trying to come up with a somewhat original date idea to go along with the last-minute flowers and chocolate you bought on the way home from work. Fortunately, the wonderful town of Rotorua plays host to an ample amount of romantic activities, both of the unstated and extravagant varieties, to give a look too if you’re in the area and in search of something unique to do. Here are a few ideas to get you started.  

There’s not a lot more relaxing and romantic than a private spa. Rotorua is renowned for its thermal waters and plays host to a handful of hot pools with private options for those looking to escape the crowds and kick back in luxury for an hour or so. The iconic Polynesian Spa offers a range of different options, either open roof for stargazers or go the full nine yards with the lakeside view options. Few spots in the nation will offer up a more wonderful backdrop to your blissful spa.  

If you’re just looking for a great dinner spot with a nice view, you can’t get any better than the Volcanic Hills Winery. Accessible via a jaunt on the Skyline Gondola (which is a great Valentine’s Day activity in itself), one of the town’s elusive wineries offers a fantastic and truly unique dining experience and few places in the country can promise better views to accompany your wine tasting.  

For those with notoriously difficult-to-impress partners seeking something truly special to make it an unforgettable Valentine’s, a spin on a Volcanic Air flight might do the trick. The service a number of awesome experiences, either by helicopter or floatplane, which include spending the day on the magnificent Mount Tarawera, exploring the stunning crater lakes and soaking in a natural hot pool on the banks of Lake Rotoiti which taking in some breathtaking scenery.  

 Of course, if you’re more of a traditional, type you can’t beat a classic picnic in the late afternoon sun. Government Gardens offers a lovely spot to soak in the last of the days sunshine while enjoying and few snacks and a bottle with the special someone in your life.  

Ultimately though, as the old saying goes, it’s the thought that counts so no matter how you choose to spend your evening, you really can’t go wrong. Just please, for the love of God, don’t forget the damn flowers this year!
