All The Tech You Need To Travel With
Weighting for the Right Baggage
You’ve packed your bags perfectly, got your passport ready, and you’re just about to get on the plane when you’re stopped due to the weight. It’s on every travellers mind, really – whether or not they have to fully unpack their entire luggage contents and throw on every extra pair of fabric you can manage. Based in New York, the online goods store, GetSet, is a fun and groovy alternative to a new way of travel. The polycarbonate suitcase houses a large LED screen on the front (powered by two AAA batteries), which increases or decreases when the weight consequently changes. It’s got a large padlock and battery pack. The bag comes in three different sizes ranging between 21 to 29.5 inches and costing up to NZD$900. You can grab one on their website.
Mastercard + Armillion= Very Expensive bracelet
A couple of months ago, I wrote a piece about Louis Vuitton’s latest attempt at earbuds. They cost the buyer a grand for the pleasure. I thought it couldn’t get any worse – or extravagant – for an accessory of that nature. Then I stumbled upon something that really seemed like an excessive amount of money. Try a £38,130 smart bracelet. Created by Armillion, who first started turning heads in Baselworld in 2016. It looks fancy as and features bespoke materials, such as 18K gold and tech ceramics. It’s dark black ring is made of ‘ultra hard-wearing exceptionalism’. It’s engraved with geometric designs which look upper-class and offers technology given the okay tick by Mastercard. It can also act as your house, or car key. It comes in seven different designs! It’s a cool bracelet, sure! But worth the price? I don’t think so.
As of April 2nd 2019, a Google product has been shut down on average every 9 days this year.
Ding-dong, knock, knock
Started in 2011 by a French company, Netatmo has become a much anticipated brand when it comes to home smart systems. In this years CES event, they announced their latest collaboration with Apple. The Smart Video Doorbell has a typical design and a 1080p camera with a 160 degree lens and motion sensor, speaker, microphone and an accompanying app. The integration with the Apple HomeKit too is something to note, with its instant iOS notification when there are people knocking at your door. You can also connect with sensor lights when you aren’t home, which is a nice little touch. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but I can tell you that it’ll be available to purchase from their website in the second half of this year.
Last year, Apple’s big competitor, Amazon invested $1 billion into Jamie Siminoff’s, Ring Inc. Though there has been has been a bit of media coverage on the fact that they’re hacking customers cameras, it still doesn’t pardon the fact that there’s a big, affordable market out there for high-tech doorbells.
Apple AirPods 2
To those music lovers out there, the trusted headphones are always a great accessory to own. The massive technology company, Apple, have recently announced the release of their latest awesome earbuds. Yes, Apple create amazing products. Yes, they are a notoriously expensive. Yes, they feature the same design as their predecessor. Yes, it’s basically the same size, but these new earbuds are also one step ahead of the curb. They will feature a number of upgrades including a new chip more call time and a wireless charging case. They’ll feature an H1 chip, that will improve ‘performance afficencies’, like the wireless AI component – just say ‘Hey Siri’ and you can guess what comes next. The Apple EarPods 2 were announced late March and now can be bought in Apple Stores for about $200.
Speaker that is too cool to miss
Having more than one speaker to a man is slightly disconcerting. They want to take their speakers to BBQs and small gatherings and not get snorted and laughed at by its size. Now there’s an answer to this ‘small’ problem. Try wowing your mates with a really big set of speakers. The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar is an all-in-one 5.1.4 design with no fewer than 13 drivers. With powerful bass, without the need for additional speakers, this gadget is one I would definitely take to my mates house. It’s available online for $3,664.
