All Tied Up
‘Tis the season for summer parties and Christmas functions. When the occasion calls for a suited look, opt for a tie that fits with the mood of the event.
The summer season is home to some of the greatest and most fashionable events in the entire social calendar. Kicking that off was the Melbourne Cup, earlier in November, to be followed by many more great days out at the races. Then there will be an abundance of office parties and Christmas events, topped off by the iconically glamorous and ritzy polo season later in February. With such a socially demanding calendar, it is important to be well equipped with some great looks to have you looking the part. Wearing a tie is like wearing your gold card on your sleeve; when people see you dressed up with a perfectly knotted tie around your neck, they know you mean business.
When putting together a summer look, it is important to find the right balance between relaxed and professional, as you don’t want to look like you have just been pulled from the beach, with jandals on and sporting a Hawaiian shirt. Nicely cropped light-coloured chinos, loafers and a shortsleeved shirt should become your go-to. Then to dress that up further, slap on a tie to suit the occasion. A linen tie has a great relaxed look and feel. If you are after something a bit more formal, go for something a bit darker and with a bold texture. Learning to pair the right tie with the right look can be a bit daunting, but once you know what works, you will look on-point and ready to take on the social scene!
