Are You Living In Your Power?
It seems we all self-sabotage, but how much it is impacting our success depends on the scale that each of us is doing this.
There are literally hundreds of ways you could self-sabotage, but most of them are caused by similar reasons. So, let us look at the five big reasons why we end up self-sabotaging and what we could do to eliminate them and change our lives.
In our business lives, we often need to face situations we haven’t experienced before and to be successful, we need to be prepared to learn as we go. This requires us to be confident and to maintain a can-do attitude, learning by trying new ideas and measuring results and consequences often with little reference to current practice or norms.
However, success can elevate that confidence into that of dominating control, which can mean our power is at the cost of someone else’s. This creates dependencies and can conflict with our freedom to remain in a state of personal growth.
Living in your power requires you to live aligned to your higher awareness, but at the same time staying very connected to your current circumstances.
My top 8 recommendations to help you live in your power
1. Evaluate decisions without any bias (unintentional or distorted by circumstance).
2. Resist fear that fuels indecision and weakens your bond with your responsibilities.
3. Increased belief strengthens your power and ability to see your vision through.
4. Hold yourself accountable for your actions but not your circumstances.
5. Use historical observation as a resource whilst realising it can be distorted.
6. Stay intrigued, curious, and humble to avoid developing a sense of entitlement.
7. Resist lazy answers, blindly following the easy path without making it your own.
8. Continuous learning expands your knowledge and is a stimulus for new thinking and opportunity.
You can grow beyond what you currently are. For example, our kids grow up, go to school, get a job, and become independent (we hope). This happens to varying degrees and on different timelines, which is part of them growing into their power. It is fascinating how everyone’s situation is so different and regardless of circumstances, some manage to nurture their power and others give it away or allow it to be taken.
Things we can consider that will help develop and enhance our sense of self, freedom and consequently will develop our power
Courage is a foundation of freedom and is acquired by the daily practice of confronting your fears. Living in your power requires an aspiration, appreciation, and respect for freedom.
Possibility is all around us, all the time, however you need to be open to it and to be able to select the possibilities that you think will take you where you want to go.
Change is part of life and being able to embrace change enhances your power to stay open to new opportunities and to stay in flow with the greater forces that create them.
Imagination is the magic that allows us to see more than what currently is and to stay connected to both possibility and change.
Thought and open mindedness feeds both our imagination and stops us getting stuck in someone else’s power. It nourishes both our freedom and difference.
Experimentation is our innate ability to learn through trial and error. Allowing us to try new possibilities, in a manageable way, thereby allowing us to manage our growth.
Motivation for better is the “why” behind change and allows us to be proactive in our endeavours. This is one of the things that has allowed human beings to evolve and adapt faster than any other species.
In reading this article, I hope you are inspired to increase your sense of contribution, value and importance, for these are the gate keepers of you living in your power. Contemplate for a moment the people in your life – how well do they respect your power? Consider who inspires you to live the best life you can, to grow and to own your influence, your power? If your employer, your partner, and your business coach are not on that list, then they are not supporting you to live in your power!
