BMW i4: A New Platform for A New Future
There’s been a lot of anticipation for BMW’s new all-electric Gran Coupe, the i4, but it’s now here and available at Auckland City BMW and East Auckland BMW. This new addition to BMW’s lineup is the first electric vehicle from BMW to be built on the new modular architecture platform, which allows for more flexibility in design and performance. And BMW have leveraged it to the max.
In keeping with its cutting edgeness, the i4 has a distinctive and striking appearance with the front of the vehicle or course characterised by the large, vertical kidney grille, a hallmark of BMW design. The grille has been reimagined for the i4, with a new, more aerodynamic shape that helps to reduce drag and improve efficiency. The front of the i4 is further enhanced by the sleek LED headlights, which feature a sharp and angular flow. The hood of the i4 is long and low, further emphasising its performance-focused design. The roofline slopes gently towards the rear of the car, giving it a coupe-like profile. The side profile is enhanced by the 19-inch M light alloy wheels, which feature performance tires that help to optimise grip and handling.
At the rear the taillights are sleek and modern, with a distinctive L-shape that echoes the design of the headlights. The rear of the car is finished off with a subtle, yet sporty, rear spoiler that helps to reduce lift and improve stability at high speeds.
The interior of the i4 is just as impressive as the exterior. The cabin is spacious and comfortable, with seating for up to five passengers. The dashboard is dominated by a large, high-resolution infotainment screen, which provides access to all of the vehicle’s features and functions.
The i4 is available in two flavours, the eDrive40 and the M50. The eDrive40 has a power output of 250 kW and a torque of 430 Nm, which allows it to go from 0-100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. Its 84 kWh high-voltage battery unit provides a maximum range of 590 km on the WLTP cycle. The M50, on the other hand, has a power output of 400 kW and a torque of 795 Nm, enabling it to go from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. It also has the same 84 kWh high-voltage battery unit as the eDrive40, providing a maximum range of 510 km on the WLTP cycle.
Both variants of the i4 are equipped with two current-excited synchronous motors, one on the front and one on the rear, as well as the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system. This setup provides the i4 with impressive handling and stability, especially in adverse weather conditions.
The i4 also comes equipped with a host of advanced technology features, including a Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 speakers, lumbar support, and a glass roof that can be opened electrically. Additionally, it has a range of option packages available, such as the Visibility Package, which includes BMW Laserlight, metallic paintwork, and an electric glass roof, and the Comfort Package, which includes lumbar support, steering wheel heating, and front and rear seat heating.
Charging the i4 is also simple and convenient. With a max DC charge rate of 200 kW, the i4 can go from 10% to 80% charge in approximately 31 minutes at a public charger. For home charging, the i4 can be charged using a BMW i Wallbox, which provides an 11 kW rate and can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 8.5 hours. Even charging from a domestic socket is possible, taking approximately 46 hours to charge from 10% to 80%.
The BMW i4 is an exciting addition to BMW’s lineup, offering an all-electric Gran Coupe that combines advanced technology, sporty driving experience, and zero emissions. With its two variants, impressive power output, and advanced technology features, the i4 is set to make a big impact in the electric vehicle market. Auckland City BMW and East Auckland BMW are now offering the i4 for customers who are looking for a unique and exhilarating driving experience.
