Buy Yourself a Smart Chopper
“The Skyryse One might look familiar on the outside, but the similarities to any other aircraft end there. Since the invention of vertical flight, pilots have juggled four controls simultaneously, using both hands and both feet just to keep it airborne,” said Dr. Mark Groden, founder and CEO of Skyryse. “Until today.” he said threateningly.
The Skyryse One is being billed as the first first production helicopter operated with a single control stick and two touch screens. I feel the same way about a touchscreen controlled helicopter the same way I feel about a submarine piloted with an xbox controller, but maybe I’m old fashioned. The Helicopter is controlled by SkyOS, an operating system built specifically for the task at hand. It’s an aircraft-agnostic, triply-redundant fly-by-wire system. They’ve essentially made a cockpit for the 21st century.
The flight stick is a single four-axis control stick similar to what you’d find inside an F-35.
It automates many tasks that would take years of training including one touch hover assist and fully automated autorotation that kicks in if it senses a power failure, automatically picking up control of the glide, flare, and set-down. Taking off and landing is all automated and getting the heli spinning ready for takeoff is as simple as finding your next partner, just swipe right.
The Skyryse One First Edition aircraft is retailing for an introductory price of just $1,800,000.
