Coming 2 America + Other Must-See Movies Coming Up
Coming 2 America
32 years after the original comedy classic, Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall reprise their roles in Coming 2 America as fish out of water African royalty attempting to get by in the 3rd world country known as the United States of America. Eddie’s character, Prince Akeem is no longer as footloose as he once was, as he prepares to become king, and loose ends from the original must be tied up.
In a different time we may have turned our noses up at a sequel to a movie from a bygone era, but just like Bill & Ted earlier last year, we’re happy to see Eddie Murphy return to our screens like an old friend reminding us of the good times, when our only worries were about finding a pencil to roll our cassette tapes back into themselves.
While many of the original cast return to reprise their roles, behind the scenes Dolemite Is My Name director, Craig Brewer, took control. Eddie and the other original writers also chipped in with the script, but the lead writing credit goes to Kenya Barris, best known for Black-ish. It’s hard to top a classic, but this crew has the talent to pull it off.
Streaming on Amazon Prime from 5th March.
Nobody
John Wick is pretty much a genre now. Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk plays the unassuming suburban dad who’s, surprise surprise, a trained killer with closets full of guns everywhere. He comes out of retirement to feel like a man again and prove to his family he’s not just another white collar wage slave. Stylish action and death ensues.
In cinemas 1st April.
Judas And The Black Messiah
Following Martin Luther King’s assassination, this film follows Black Panther leader Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya) and head of his security team William O’Neal (LaKeith Stanfield), the veritable Judas who’s also an FBI informant. A drama whose biggest tragedy is its relevance to events still occuring today.
In cinemas 11th March.
