Editor’s Letter Of M2 Dec/Jan 2021
It’s that time of year again. The end of it. Thank God. Mind you, it’s not as though turning the page in the Gregorian calendar is going to fix everything. Life is not always easy of course, but there are always moments of joy, love, friendship, purpose and achievement to punctuate the way. A couple of constants that I have always noticed in some of the most inspiring people that I’ve interviewed is they have often had to crawl through a lot of crap to get where they are, but they always had a strong sense of where they were headed.
As that polarising psychology professor, Jordan Peterson says, “Don’t underestimate the power of vision and direction. These are irresistible forces, able to transform what might appear to be unconquerable obstacles into traversable pathways and expanding opportunities.”
A fine example of this is our M2 Man of the Year, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. He has become a global powerhouse both in personal brand and physicality. He’s achieved money, fame and sporting success, but it hasn’t been a stroll in the park to get there. He’s done the hard yards, but he had his vision. He also by the way, has always held onto his sense of humour which I think is always important, regardless of whatever else is happening in the world.
In that vein, I’m going to end this note with a quote from Dave Barry that my colleague Isaac Taylor left as a placeholder on this page as some sort of juvenile prank. More fool him though because I think it is the perfect sign off for 2020.
“Never under any circumstances take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.”
