Elon Musk Is Boring
While Uber is taking to the sky, Elon Musk is going underground with his Boring Company which is set torevolutionise public transport in Los Angeles. The plan involves a tunnel network under the city populated by electric carriages that can reach speeds of around 200km/h, and could get people around the city in minutes.
“Boring Co urban loop system would have 1000’s of small stations the size of a single parking space that take you very close to your destination & blend seamlessly into the fabric of a city, rather than a small number of big stations like a subway” Musk said in a tweet. For passengers it would be like stepping into a glass elevator which is lowered into the tunnel, and then sent on its way.
For Los Angeles City Council, any project dedicated to relieving the cities traffic woes is a godsend. Earlier, in April 2018 Los Angeles City Council’s Public Works Committee unanimously waved the need for an environmental review in an effort to fast track the construction of a 4.3km tunnel being constructed for test purposes. Let’s not let nature get in the way of progress.
This project brought the Metropolitan Transportation Authority into the mix, themselves concerned that it would interfere with their own tunneling exploits. After meeting with the Boring Company they changed their tune, publicly acknowledging that they were excited to partner with the eccentric billionaire.
This tunnel system would also one day be the start of Musk’s rollout of the Hyperloop, which would connect future spaceports being used by SpaceX which could send people around the world at 27,000 km/h. With all these interlocking pieces he would be able to create a public transport ecosystem that could move people anywhere in the world in less than an hour.
