Executive Decision
If we have learnt anything from American Psycho, The Godfather and Scarface, it’s that a good personal office carries a lot of weight when it comes to business success.
Although, thanks to Scarface we also learnt the importance of having an easily wipeable desk. Still, these days it’s not just putting down a slab of maple, plugging in one of those green and gold table lamps and leaning back in your high-shouldered brown leather chair and putting your feet up. We’ve scoured some of the best office projects from around the world to help you elevate your office game.
The Dark Knight
If you want an office to match your new American Express Black card this is probably it. Conceived by the Portuguese purveyors of cool, Covet House, this office space just goes to prove that black and gold is the international sign for balls out opulence. Their Apotheosis desk takes centre stage in all of its grandeur, while, the Soleil chairs bring in a touch of reserved luxury with their light upholstery and elegant detailing. The Coltrane suspension lamp and Atlas table lamp provide sculptural lighting that is as much about art as it is about function. A striking geometric pattern of the Air rug sets a dynamic foundation for the space, echoing the straight lines of the bookshelves while contrasting with the flowing curtains. The combination of dark wood, golden accents, and the marbled floor oozes executive chutzpah.
4 or 5 Shades of Gray
If you like sci-fi movies made in the 1960s because of their weird retro, futuristic, post-modernist aesthetic why not spend every working day in one? European designers LUXXU have conceived this space with their Algerone Desk as the star of the show. Crafted using grey Eucalyptus Frisé, grey leather, smoked glass and polished brass lines elegantly contouring its design, this piece is as much art as it is a workstation. Above, sleek linear suspension lights provide a warm, ambient glow that contrasts with the cool grey palette of the room. A plush chair is positioned for comfort and productivity, while a patterned rug anchors the space with its bold stripes. And to balance out all the grey and sci-fi they have thrown in a plant pot for good measure.
Neutral Ground
Beige has had a bit of a bad rap over the years for being boring but maybe it is the hue that is so confident that it doesn’t need any fancy triadic colour combinations to make it feel good about itself. Inject some of this confidence into your business negotiating by basking in an office of beige. Brabbu Design Forces have conceived this medley of neutral tones as a home for their SHINTO desk, which presents a bold, sleek silhouette to a sophisticated neutral palette accented with rich textures and luxurious metallic finishes. Accompanying the desk are the TELLUS Armchair and DUKONO Dining Chair, both embodying a refined comfort with their curved lines and plush upholstery, highlighted by detailed stitching and nailhead trim. The striking chandelier serves as a focal point, with its Sputnik-inspired design adding a touch of retro glam. The light fixture’s brass elements echo the warmth found in the fluted wooden wall panels and the plant’s container, creating a cohesive look throughout the space. The backdrop is characterised by vertical lines, which lend a sense of height and structure, while the floor brings in an earthy texture, softening the overall feel. Artistic touches, such as the sculptural side table and decorative vase, contribute to the space’s curated sophistication. Overall, this space showcases an elegant blend of mid-century modern and contemporary design aesthetics.
Concrete Jungle
While we often try to hide and cover concrete in interior design, actually leaning into it can make for a unique office setting. Designers Boca do Lobo have conceived this masterful combination of industrial chic and modern luxury by leveraging the room’s raw concrete walls and throwing in some marble and brass accents, to create a stark but harmonious contrast. The open shelving unit with brass framework against the concrete wall is a nod tD
