4 Movies To Look Out For This December
Oh the horror, December. It’s a magical time to recollect that you have no idea where your year went, while being bludgeoned with red and green tinsel. November has already seen the first wave of terrible Christmas movies, so we can skim past those onto better things.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Christmas is now the time for your yearly Star Wars fix, know that Disney is milking the galaxy for all it’s worth. Following on from 2015’s The Force Awakens the story picks up right where it left off, with Rey (Daisy Ridley) training with the first trilogies hero, an older, wiser, Luke Skywalker. J.J. Abrams has stepped down from the directors chair this time around and is giving the reigns to Rian Johnson who both wrote and directed this next chapter. Keep a sharp eye on how this movie gets you, because it’ll be a good indication of the spin-off trilogy Rian Johnson has been handed. Abrams will still lend his flavour to The Last Jedi as he’s still on board as Executive Producer.
While Mark Hamill has remained active over the years with his voice acting work, for many of us this will be the first time we’ve seen him stretch his legs on the silver screen for a while. He was perhaps the most cautious about diving back into the series which made his career. “No one wants to see the 50-, 60-, 70-year-old versions of us, running around, bumping heads on the Death Star,” he told the Independent. “It’s sad.”
But after Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford both jumped aboard he didn’t feel like he had a choice. “Can you imagine if I was the only one to say no? I’d be the most hated man in nerd-dom.”
With that sort of weight on him, he won’t disappoint. Oh and if you can, avoid the trailers, I know that it’s Star Wars and that’s impossible, but if you can manage it, it’ll be worth it. The trailers have major spoilers.
Borg VS. Mcenroe

A new genre needs to be made for these rough vintage sporting legend movies. Borg Vs McEnroe recreates the massive rivalry between Bjorn Borg and his biggest rival, the young and talented John McEnroe and their legendary duel during the 1980’s Wimbledon tournament. It’s a story of two men who changed the face of tennis and the price they had to pay.
Better Watch Out
In cinemas 7 December
Imagine if the traps in Home Alone cut the cat burglars heads off, and as they fly through the air with a frozen expression of surprise Macaulay Culkin was cackling the entire time. That is what Better Watch Out is. A Comedy/Horror/Thriller with plenty of blood and yuletide cheer.
The Hero
In cinemas 26 December
Sam Elliot plays an ailing old western star who feels like he hasn’t achieved anything since his days in the westerns. The 71-year-old attempts to turn his life around in this piece of drama. Sure it’s naval gazing cinema, but it’s about people trying to fix their lives and that’s something we can all related to.
