Games to Eat Your Time across May And June 2024
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
June 21
If you haven’t got into Elden Ring yet, you either were never going to or you may have been living under some sort of rock – but with a new DLC finally on the horizon, this might be the perfect time to jump in. It has just been announced that Elden Ring’s long awaited DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, will be dropping in June. While the expansion’s story and themes remain characteristically enigmatic, it looks like Shadow of the Erdtree will have a lot to do with the demigod Miquella, brother of Malenia (currently the game’s most challenging foe). FromSoftware have a stellar record when it comes to DLC for their Souls games: there’s no doubt this expansion is well worth keeping your eye on. It looks like Shadow will be end game content, so jump back in now and make sure your Tarnished is ready for a new brutal adventure.
Balatro
Balatro is a deceptively simple looking deck builder roguelite based on poker. You’re playing against yourself to try and pull the biggest hand you can, with a deck you slowly construct yourself. As you progress what starts out as simple poker begins to achieve an escape trajectory into something else entirely. Which is good because I hate poker. I got a card that was just a slab of concrete. I had a ten of hearts that was made of glass and gave me a score multiplier. I found out that there a wrong way to play a full house. By the time you’re shuffling in tarot cards you’re playing a game your average cowboy would not recognise.
This is going to be one of 2024s indy darlings, and players have already lost hundreds of hours to this game.
