Giving You The Runaround
Bertone first introduced it’s Autobianchi Runabout back in 1969. What a head turner, with it’s wedge shaped design and shoulder mounted headlights. Now over 50 years later it’s back as the first model in the Bertone Classic Range.
Bertone first introduced it’s Autobianchi Runabout back in 1969. What a head turner, with it’s wedge shaped design and shoulder mounted headlights. Now over 50 years later it’s back as the first model in the Bertone Classic Range, a series dedicated to reviving Bertone’s most celebrated designs. Each model will be produced in a limited series, ensuring exclusivity for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
The Runabout comes in two forms, the Barchetta which is the most pure expression of the original sans a roof or windshield, which are a few things that most normal cars just have. The alternative design is the Targa, which is for people who plan to drive around in mixed weather (so anywhere in New Zealand really), and features a removable roof. The inspiration for the Runabouts iconic look comes from the racing boats of the 1960s. It itself went onto inspire the Fiat X1/9 and Lancia Stratos.
It’s run with a V6 with 460hp. Pop up headlights on the front can remain tucked away as you rely on the LED strip bar placed underneath, otherwise feel free to take advantage of the larger lights swivelling out of the hood. Unlike the original it has side door access, so you don’t need to be a gazelle to get into it.
Pricing starts at NZ$668,000 and only 25 are being made available.
