Googling Up Sergey
Google founder Sergey Bren must be doing some spring cleaning and found that his biggest super yacht no longer brings him joy, because the elegant Dragonfly that he has owned since 2011 is now going on the market for the very first time since he picked it up brand new.
Valued at $80 million it’s being listed at $30 million, so it’s going for an absolute bargain. But he probably won’t miss his crown jewel too much since he’s got a fleet of two other yachts to keep him company. This flotilla has been dubbed The Fly Fleet by his inner circle. This is due to the name of all of the yachts in the collection, Dragonfly, Butterfly, and firefly.
The yacht has some good stories attached to it. In 2015 it headed to Vanuatu after Hurricane Pam ripped through the island. There it served as a base to deliver 62 tons of fresh water, treat over 250 patients, and facilitated 3 medical evacuations among other things. It’s nice to know it spent at least a little of it’s time doing god’s work, and wasn’t just a place to rail supermodels 8 times a week.
The Dragonfly is a cool 240 footer with exteriors by the Australian based Silveryachts and interiors designed by Danielo Silverstrin.
Sharp eyed yacht fans would have already spotted it at the 2024 Monaco Yacht show in September. It’s in good nick, even after over a decade of bobbing about as a floating luxury aid station, and it’s engines were recently refitted in 2022. This refit has well and truly put it into the 21st century with a 384kWh battery bank that lowers fuel burn. It has a top speed of 25 knots.
Accommodation is big enough for 18 guests in 8 suites as well as 18 additional crew members. A helipad allows for quick egress while and XL jacuzzi will do it’s best to tempt you away from ever leaving. There’s also a gym and a “wellness area” but in my experience when you’re on a yacht the entire thing is a wellness area.
