Grand Seiko SBGZ007: A Masterpiece Worth Waiting 140 Years For
Walk up in the mountains near Achi in the southern part of Japan’s Shinshu region, and the air is so clear it seems that you can simply reach up and touch the stars that twinkle above you. All the worries and stresses of life disappear as you momentarily escape the Earth and catch a fleeting glimpse of the immensity of the universe. Inspired by the walk, the elite team of watchmakers from Grand Seiko’s legendary Micro Artist Studio at Shiojiri decided to recreate the majestic Achi effect in the Grand Seiko SBGZ007 – a new limited edition Masterpiece to celebrate the company’s 140th anniversary.
With its deep blue dial accentuated by delicate sparkles set against a Zaratsu-polished Platinum 950 case cleverly engraved in different directions, the designers really have created a magical tribute to the heavens. Even the hour and minute markers have been made from brilliant 14K white gold to make them leap out from the night sky.
Inside the slim 9.8mm case, this watch is powered by the Spring Drive manual-winding calibre 9R02 – itself a celebration of 20 years of Spring Drive. This delivers an outstanding 84 hours power reserve courtesy of the Dual Spring Barrel and the innovative Torque Return System which can also save up to 30% on power when full wound.
Through the transparent crystal back, the barrel can be seen in the form of a bellflower – the symbol of Shiojori – along with the power reserve indicator, rubies and tempered blue screws. There is also an 18K gold plaque engraved with “Micro Artist” which can upon request be tailored to a word of your choice.
This beautiful anniversary model also comes with a crocodile leather strap with three-fold clasp with push button release. Strictly limited, only 50 of this very special edition Grand Seiko SBGZ007 will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques in August 2021. Book yours today.
