Hands On With The Logitech G PRO X 2
When I told my friends that I was trialling the over-ear Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed Gaming Headset I got nods of approval all round, till they found out I had the white pair. Apparently when it comes to headphones my friends will haze me if I get anything other than the black ones. Apart from getting hassled for my colour choices the Logitech G Pro X’s have a good reputation in gaming circles for having a solid build with comfortable pads. The new Logitech G PRO X 2’s maintain that high calibre, but with 100% less wires. Taking advantage of Logitech’s Lightspeed USB connection, gamers don’t need to worry about any kind of lag time with gameplay. If you do want to plug in and don’t want to crawl around behind your PC the USB dongle has its own aux plug in it which will connect straight into your headset. You have to be powered down for this mode though, which will lose you some functionality, but is still a handy feature in a pinch. The Lightspeed dongle makes life so much easier not having to mess with bluetooth. Getting started was as easy as plugging it in.
Behind the left ear are the controls. You have a volume wheel, power switch, Bluetooth toggle and mic mute button. Charging is done via a USB-C charging port. The left earcup also has an aux port for plugging in the detachable mic. Over discord the mic works great, and downloading the G Hub software gives you a boggling amount of options for tweaking your audio.
In the box you get a charging cable, auxiliary cable, dongle, a soft zip up case and a spare set of earpads. The extra pads were an excellent inclusion, giving you the choice between Memory foam leatherette ear pads or memory foam cloth ear pads. Using both I think I prefer the leatherette pads, but the cloth pads might be better in summer, we’ll see. Having a baby around has suddenly shown me the value of having hard shell cases for everything, but in lue of that the soft storage case at least keeps all the bits and bobs in one place and takes up little to no space when it’s not in use.
The build quality is sturdy and feels premium with an aluminium frame which assures me that it could handle me sitting on them and come out unscathed. The graphene drivers are great for delivering undistorted and accurate audio in 2.0 surround sound. Figuring out where dudes were in Battle Bit was no issue, and it was a great set of headphones to use while video editing and playing with levels.
The true test is whether these are going to be my new go-to pair to wear for everyday gaming and work. The answer is… Yes definitely.
