He Musk Be Mad
Elon Musk has been steeped in current popular culture as being a certain genius-madman. As well as being the CEO of one of the world’s biggest space companies, founder of Tesla, launching a casual flame-thrower with one of his side-projects and having an estimated net-worth of USD$24 billion, the man never seems to stop.
Last month, Musk did in fact go one step further by unveiling Tesla’s next project, titled Cybertruck. In all honesty, it looks pixelated and reminds us of those block cars that you used to drive on Ridge Racer, but Musk swears that it has ‘better utility’ than your average pick-up and more performance than a racy sports car, despite the looks.
The exterior, though odd-looking, is built using Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin and armour glass. Musk showed the room full of media and potential buyers last month just how durable the glass is by taking a brick to it.
Unfortunately, that plan backfired by shattering the glass. That mistake cost Musk a 6.1 percent drop in the automaker’s shares. But he claimed that 200,000 pre-orders had already been pencilled in for its late-2021 release date.
The Cybertruck has 1,587kg of payload, an upgraded air suspension and 100 cubic feet of exterior space. To think of a truck, it would be remiss not to mention how much it can tow. According to Musk it’ll be up to 6,350kg. Inside, the interior will seat six comfortably with additional storage under the seats. Of course, in true Elon Musk-style, there’ll also be the latest in entertainment,17-inch touchscreens and a customised interface.
The Cybertruck is able to go from 0 to 96km/h in 2.9 seconds with its all electric design. You can pop a USD$200 deposit down on your own Cybertruck on the Tesla website.
