Here’s Where To Celebrate Chinese New Year In Style
With 2020 having cracked open with a bang, the New Year festivities are thought to be all but over for now. Everyone has returned to work begrudgingly and the kids are equally as excited (or not) at returning to school. But there’s so much to come in the cultural calendar and SkyCity are ready to provide some exciting celebrations.
Also known as the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year is happening on the 25th of January and New Zealand’s greatest casino and event centre, SkyCity, is going to put on quite a party to welcome in the Year of the Rat. Starting on the 24th and going until the 26th, the free family-friendly Chinese New Year Federal Street Festival will feature cultural performances and activities, including lion dancing, taiko drumming, acrobatic dancing and so much more. Between 2pm to 8pm on the 25th, the God of Fortune, Caishen, will perform a SkyJump and participate in an Eye Spot ceremony and firecrackers will then be used to ward off evil spirits.
Different craft stalls will be available through the Plaza and go into the night with the Night Market at the base of the red and gold Sky Tower.
Chinese restaurant, Huami, will also be offering an authentic contemporary set menu for dinner on the 24th and lunch and dinner on the 25th of January.
