Best Cocktail Bar In The World’s Most Iconic Gin Cocktail & How to Make It
Mayfair isn’t just the most desirable plot of land on the Monopoly board, it’s also the go-to place for the ritziest cocktail bar on the planet. We’ve mentioned it in passing before, but we really must pay the Connaught Bar some closer attention. It’s consistently named the best cocktail bar in the world, and it isn’t hard to see why. Before we even get to the drinks, the interiors are spectacularly posh, evoking English and Irish Cubist art of the 1920s with designs by David Collins Studio. If you’re wondering how you book a table, well, sorry. They don’t take reservations, which is a good thing since you might actually have a chance that way.
The presentation doesn’t end at the décor. They’re famous for their martini trolley where you’re able to see a master craftsman at work, making the magic happen right before your very eyes. Late last year Stanley Tucci, the living embodiment of a refined cocktail, took a turn behind the trolley to make their most iconic mix, the Connaught Martini. It’s a classic aperitif served with a unique twist from the famous trolley, tailored specifically to your taste with handmade bitters.
In Tucci’s case they opted for:
- 75ml Tanqueray No.10 Gin
- Grapefruit bitter
- 15ml Vermouth
- Grapefruit peel for Garnish
Mix it all together with ice and then serve. For a more in-depth look at how to put it together the correct way, check out the video of Tucci stumbling through it himself.
Tanqueray is by far the best option for a top-tier cocktail, so it makes sense that the bar hailed the best in the world would make it the starring act on their menu.
So while we may not be traveling to the UK anytime soon, we can at least try and make their cocktails from the comfort of our own home, sans Irish Cubist art, white gloves, and silver trollies.
