I Am William Wallace

Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace and I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny. You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What would you do with that freedom? 

This one is all about inspiration; to celebrate a proud Scotsman who stirred his countrymen to throw off the yoke of their English oppressors; to also rejoice in a famous Islay single malt whisky producer’s sea change in attitude that helped inspire an industry mired in centuries-old traditions to shake off the conservatism and get with today’s ecologically aware consumers. And, not insignificantly; to also raise our cocktail glasses to a waning action hero movie star who took the bravest punt of all in daring to produce, direct and star in a biopic of a (pre-cultural appropriation awareness) foreigner’s incredible life story. The fact that his Braveheart movie turned out a classic, won Mel Gibson two Oscars and redefined his career was the sweet orange twist garnish that completes the experience perfectly. 

The I Am William Wallace cocktail, feel free to try it!

Ingredients

20ml  Cointreau L’Unique

20ml  Bruichladdich Classic Laddie

20ml  Sweet vermouth

20ml  Fresh orange juice

5ml  Fresh lemon juice

1 dash   Angostura Bitters

Method

1- Combine all ingredients in a shaker and add ice.

2- Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist
