It’s always Zulu Time With The Pelagos
One does not normally associate the luxury TUDOR watches with the armed forces, but Tudor has been the official supplier to the French Navy” since 1961.
They earned this title after a protracted testing of their Oyster Prince Submariner watches by the French Navy to see how they performed in real life situations and stress tests up to 100 metres underwater. On the field their performance was considered perfect, and the rest is history.
In 2021 the collaboration got revived with a new set of Pelagos FXD’s for the Aéronautique Navale (French Naval Aviation). Unique to the Tudor collection the 42mm grade 2 titanium cases of these models have distinctive fixed strap bars machined into the main body. Shaped as an extension of the lugs, they are key to the model’s characteristic silhouette.
The brand new Pelagos FXD GMT tracks three time zones at once, including Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) so everyone stays synced up during missions. Known as Zulu time in the military this one is specially tracked with an orange hour hand. This model also has a 22mm green polyester strap crafted by TUDOR in collaboration with Julien Faure. It features a titanium buckle and an embroidered keeper adorned with the French Naval Aviation roundel.
The FXD GMT is waterproof up to 200m and is powered by the Manufacture Calibre MT5652-U which has a weekend proof power reserve and is impervious to magnetic fields below 15,000 gauss. For reference you’d be lucky to find anything over 10 gauss in your house, a power tool maybe. To toast this thing you’d have to chuck it through an MRI machine a couple times.
