Jaeger-LeCoultre Brand Ambassador, Benedict Cumberbatch
Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Swiss watch brand, has been crafting classically elegant timepieces since 1833. Aside from reinvention, the brand also focuses on the inventions that propel watches through the present and into the future, having developed watch technology since their founding. The Atmos pendulum for a new way to power watches, reversing cases to allow British officers in the 20th-century play polo, alarm diving watch that optimizes sound diffusion when submerged and a Dual-Wing concept which allowed precision and complication to be in sync.
The 185-year-old watch brand has joined forces with Benedict Cumberbatch, our M2 Magazine – May 2018 cover story. The world-renowned British actor was announced earlier this year as the new Jaeger-LeCoultre brand ambassador as the brand explains that he “embodies the elegant and active man of today with his integrity as an actor, a family man and someone who dedicates himself with energy to charitable endeavours”. The actor has had found incredible success winning numerous acting awards, from BAFTAs to Emmys to Academy awards, and was even one of Times most influential people in 2014. One of his latest role as Dr Strange in the Marvel cinematic universe has allowed him to showcase a watch, pertinent to the plot, as his character learns to harness time-warping powers. In the film, Dr. Strange wears a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual watch, which he picks out on screen and which is inscribed with a phrase that plays a role in the movie story line. Aside from his character’s interest on the big screen, Cumberbatch also describes his personal keen interest in timepieces, “Being a great watchmaking enthusiast I am delighted to be associated with such an outstanding watch manufacture as Jaeger‑LeCoultre.”
