Kiwis Rethinking The Humble Shoe by Making Them Entirely Out of Wool
Earlier this year, NZ’s very own Allbirds announced that they had cracked the code on the world’s first net zero carbon shoe, aptly dubbed the M0.0NSHOT (hence the 0.0 in the name!)
The M0.0NSHOT’s upper is fashioned in carbon-negative, regenerative wool sourced from Lake Hawea Station in New Zealand’s South Island. Wool doesn’t grow on trees you know! The minimalist design approach lets this natural material play the hero. It’s appropriate that Allbirds is once again shaking up the industry with wool considering the company was founded with a New Zealand wool shoe.
Innovation is no good if it’s kept to themselves though, even though they rightly deserve to hold onto it and profit as much as they can. When it comes to the health of the planet, doing what we can for it should always have precedent over profits. Allbirds are giving away their toolkit detailing each step of the M0.0NSHOT’s process, so that others in the footwear industry can follow suit.
We’ll be wearing the M0.0NSHOT ourselves when it Launches commercially in early 2024.
