Live Like Gary, No Murder Required
If you’ve been watching The White Lotus Season 3, you’ll know that once again, creator Mike White has done another beautiful job of turning paradise into an uncomfortable pressure cooker of human dysfunction. This time where the fragility of family dynamics and long term friendship festers with lust, desire, jealousy and revenge against the vibrant backdrop of Southern Thailand.
The show really is a very depressing reflection of humanity but hey, the locations are awesome and the star of the show has got to be Gary’s hilltop villa. While Gary himself might be a despicable human being void of any self reflection and any other redeeming qualities you got to give him credit for his taste in architecture. The villa plays host to some of the most tense and beautifully lit moments of the season. And it is a character in its own right. A cold, beautiful, expensive character that marks Gary’s transition from government worker to uber wealthy thanks to a bit of uxoricide and is the perfect minimalist backdrop to his menacing silent brooding.
Well, the good news is that you too can live like Gary if you want to. Not necessarily, the murder schemes but you can stay in his villa as the exterior scenes were all filmed at Samujana Villa 12.
Perched on a lush hillside on Koh Samui’s northeastern coast, Samujana Villa 12 is a 2,000-square-metre luxury estate that looks like it was designed by a minimalist architect with a God complex. With seven oversized en-suite bedrooms (five of which feature private Jacuzzis), the villa comfortably sleeps up to 14 guests, making it perfect for a discreet gathering with friends, a week-long strategy retreat, or, if you’re feeling like your family needs to address some issues, a White Lotus-style slow-burn unravelling.
The 25-metre saltwater infinity pool spills into the Gulf of Thailand, backed by a rooftop sun deck that was made for sunset cocktails and mysterious glances. Inside, you’ll find a private cinema that seats over 20, a fully loaded games room with table tennis, retro arcade machines, consoles, and a bar (of course), and a commercial-grade gym complete with Life Fitness gear, Hammerstrength machines, free weights, and a matted MMA/boxing area for when you need to unleash an inner demon or two.
