M2 Luxury Watch Guide 2021: Piaget
Piaget Polo Chronograph Limited Edition
Embracing the non-conformist spirit that its maker prides itself on, Piaget’s latest is a fascinating contemporary sports watch. The Piaget Polo Chronograph Limited Edition catches the eye with its unconventional ‘cushion’ shaped, horizontally striped dial, which rests on the case with a sincere and effective silver and blue colour scheme. Upon the dial resides just about every feature a go-getter would need in a watch in their day without cluttering the dial with unnecessary detail. The easy-to-read blue chronograph counters (for which the piece has been adorned with the affectionate nickname ‘panda’) and date ticker sit proudly on the dials horizontal and vertical axes respectively. The light colouring is enhanced by a coat of SuperLuminova on the hands and indexes, which assists with visibility when in low light conditions.
The bezel is uniquely wide to accommodate the cushion shaped dial and sits upon a 42mm stainless steel case. Holding the piece down is a blue rubber strap, enhancing the effectiveness of the silver/blue colour contrast while simplistic enough to take nothing away from the fantastic piece that sits on either end. Like most high-quality limited-edition models, this timepiece is only made for an exclusive few, as only 888 pieces have been made available for purchase.
Piaget Polo Skeleton
While the Chronograph displays Piaget’s ability to create a piece which excels with its subtle individuality, the Piaget Polo Skeleton proves that the Swiss watchmakers can go the opposite route and create something just as fashionable. The astonishingly detailed Skeleton is a special work, a fascinating concept that creates a captivating visual aesthetic. The Skeleton is remarkably thin at just 6.5mm (30% thinner than the typical Polo formula) and the ‘x-ray’ dial approach recognises that sometimes the excellence of a watch’s mechanics can be just as beautiful to look at as a flashy jewel-infused dial.
The 189 components of the 2.4mm automatic skeleton 1200S1 calibre, which would typically play the important behind scenes role, takes centre stage in this piece with the blue and grey grooves of the calibre enhanced with a satin-brushed finish, painting a snaking, maze-like picture. The stainless-steel ‘H’ shaped components of the bracelet are conveniently interchangeable if you want to opt for a leather strap approach, depending on your style preference.
