M2 Luxury Watch Guide 2021: Rolex
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona
The perfect piece for those out there who know they were born to go fast. Introduced in 1963, the Cosmograph Daytona is inextricably linked to the world of motor racing. It allows drivers to measure elapsed time and read average speeds on its trademark tachymetric bezel. The watch pays tribute to a place – Daytona, Florida – where passion for speed and racing developed in the early 20th century. Its triple threat of chronograph counters on the dial ensure tracking splits as easy as it can be when cranking out blistering lap after blistering lap. This exclusive version’s appearance is just as acclaimable as its functionality, with an absolutely stunning metallic meteorite dial, contrasting exquisitely with the midnight black of the counters and surrounding monobloc Cerachrom bezel. For these dials, Rolex works with leading experts in the field and selects only the sections of meteorite with a particularly well-formed surface rich in different shapes and reflections.
The neat 40mm case, fashioned out of 18 ct white gold, holds the piece together and along with the Triplelock’ed waterproofed winding crown, gives the piece a waterproof limit of up to 100m. Powering this fantastic piece is Rolex’s in-house Perpetual calibre 4130, an intentionally minimalistic calibre designed to increase reliability. The strap may appear to be a simple touch, but the Oysterflex bracelet is created with unique flexible metal blades which ensure that it has the sturdiness of a metal bracelet, but the comfort and flexibility of a elastomer strap.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II
When you think about the world’s greatest and most famed explorers, they all have one thing in common; they weren’t afraid of taking a few risks to accomplish something extraordinary. Rolex creates its watches with that same mindset, and with the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II, they have demonstrated how carrying that fearless mindset can lead to outstanding results. This timepiece is undoubtedly daring; the skeleton indexes and hands are immediately noteworthy, jumping right off the snow white lacquer dial. Mixed in is a playful splash of orange with the roaming 24-hour hand (which pairs with the engraved bezel for easy-to-read 24-hour time) and subtle EXPLORER II inscription hidden in the background.
Crafted out of block of Oystersteel, the 42mm case shines with a splendidly simple silver sheen. The three-piece linked Oyster bracelet holds the piece down both literally and figuratively, completing the design without distracting from the work of art on its ends and locking together securely with a Rolex-engineered Oysterlock folding safety clasp, ensuring no matter what wild adventure you’re embarking on, the Explorer II will be sticking with you through all of it.
