Man On The Street – Daniel Na
Age: 28
Occupation: Executive chef at Ostro
What’s your morning routine?
As soon as I wake up I make a short black for myself and start making breakfast. After, I get changed, walk to work, taking the same route as I do everyday. This makes it feel like a good start to the day!
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
I want to travel and have a passport full of entry stamps. Since the age of 18, I have worked in kitchens with minimal holidays. It would be a dream to see the world.
I wish to own a boat and look forward to spending my retirement days, stress-free fishing on my boat.
To be recognized as successful chef internationally and introduce New Zealand produce all over the world.
What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?
WORK HARD, PLAY HARDER!
How do you think the World will change over the next 20 years?
I think robots will do everything. Have you been to Auckland airport recently? Even boarding your bags are done by machines!
How do you stay motivated?
First I try to be healthy and think positively as much as possible. Life is too short to be unmotivated and sad.
If you didn’t need money, what would you do?
I would like go to the mountain and build a small house made with soil and live on vegetables which I have grown.
What is your secret to success?
It is really simple. Think positive and try to be a ‘YES’ man. Take a challenge for tasks around you and try to achieve them, then you will be close to success.
What’s the best bit of advice or quote that resonates with you?
Be someone who is needed for someone. If you cannot avoid it, you might as well try and enjoy it. My father always says that to me.
What is your favourite restaurant to frequent?
A restaurant which has a high standard of food and service as well as a great team. Without a great team you are nothing.
What is your secret to living a longer, more satisfying life?
Same again. Keep yourself positive and have a job you are passionate about. If you have someone who you can share your life story with, together it would be bonus.
What makes you feel alive?
When I smash a big project that I put so much effort into and it goes perfectly. Followed by a good workout at the gym.
