Man On The Street: Karl Plank
Find out what makes the kiwi man tick, from bucket lists to where we find our current affairs.
Karl Plank
Age: 29
Occupation: Marketing Manager – KiwiPlates
What’s your morning routine?
My day starts at 6:45am where I have fun entertaining my 7 month old daughter. I jump in my car, ironically personalised with the plate ‘EV’ (I don’t own an electric vehicle yet but it’s a step closer to my Tesla Model S!) and push play on a podcast. Once at my desk, I open up my emails with an oversized coffee and bagel in hand.
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Spend a month snowboarding and exploring Japan.
Scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef.
Take the family to visit the rellies in Liechtenstein.
How do you stay motivated?
Reading autobiographies about some of the world’s most successful people; most of which were simply everyday people who just followed a crazy idea.
What is the secret to success?
Being able to take a risk when an opportunity comes your way.
What is the best bit of advice, or quote, that resonates with you?
“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.” by Zig Ziglar.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
Woodpecker Hill in Parnell. Great food and excellent service with a relaxed, upbeat atmosphere.
How do you keep up to date with current affairs?
The Project on Three with the A team: Jeremy, Josh, Kanoa and Jesse.
What is the secret of living a longer, more successful life?
Ask me on my 100th birthday.
What makes you feel alive?
There’s something exciting about exploring the great outdoors and getting off the beaten track. Add an element of danger and uncertainty into the mix and that is what makes me feel the most alive. Like the time my cousin and I found ourselves in the middle of a pod of killer whales in our 6ft inflatable. They’re much bigger than they look on TV!
