Man on the Street – Marco Marinkovich
Occupation: Owner and Creative Director at Brandknew Digital
Age: 32
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
I have just returned from ticking a few off; I traveled to where my Grandparents were from in Croatia to see where they grew up, kissed my wife under the Eiffel Tower in Paris and I had a noodle soup in Hong Kong. Next on my list is to get in the boxing ring this year.
How do you stay motivated?
Micro goal setting! Short and long term goal setting is essential and I have a clear vision statement to stay on track. However, I’m a results driven person so need quick wins to keep me motivated. I have a list of daily micro goals that I make sure I check off to get my winning fix.
If you didn’t need money, what would you do?
Exactly what I am doing now, I love what I do! I get to help companies solve complex problems by thinking creatively and playing with technology. No one day is ever the same, which suits my attention span perfectly. When your time is up, you’re a long time looking at the lid, so if you are not doing what you love, you are wasting your time.
What is the worst mistake you’ve made and how did you fix it?
I would say being too proud to ask for help when I needed it. Thankfully I made this mistake earlier on when I started Brandknew at 22 and now surround myself with clever advisors. “Success leaves clues” so look to others who know more than you and get solid advice that you can take.
What is your advice for people to fund their dream?
Figure out what your dream is actually worth to you, if it means everything, you will find a way to fund it.
What is the secret of living a longer, more successful life?
Gratitude for the past and appreciation for the future. Looking after your mental health and feeding it with nothing but positivity is as important as your physical health. Take time to switch off everyday. I meditate every morning when I walk my dog Zoe and focus on being grateful about all the positives in my life.
