Man On The Street – Shawn Pope
Age: 46
Occupation: Director of Melba Group
What’s your morning routine?
Starts with coffee, preferably roasted by Espresso Workshop, it always has!
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Spend a white Christmas with my family in the States, travel on the Orient Express (can’t wait to see St Petersburg), windsurf on Lake Garda in Italy!
What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?
Slow down, save for a property rather than a nice car! Don’t worry about what people think of you – be yourself and embrace it!
How do you stay motivated?
I’ve always been motivated to achieve all my life; wanting more out of life has kept me focused. It sounds clichéd, but keep your goals top of mind. The mental comes before the physical, so dream it and it will happen.
If you didn’t need money, what would you do?
Spend more time with my family, travel around the world with my wife, be there more for my daughters.
What is your secret to success?
Persistence! Think about what you want to achieve and don’t give up.
What’s the best bit of advice or quote that resonates with you?
Carpe diem: be ready for the opportunities and take them. Don’t look back, look forward.
What are your favourite restaurants to frequent?
Ampersand Eatery – Orakei Bay Village, hands down!
What is your secret to living a longer, more satisfying, life?
Balance! Look after your yourself, look after your family and look after your business!
What makes you feel alive?
Being around the water – surfing, windsurfing, and being on a boat (preferably a fast one!)
