Hospitality business coach and consultant, Mark Collins, gives us his thoughts on
What’s your morning routine?
40 minutes mediation and affirmations as soon as I wake up, shower, dress, make breakfast and then walk to work in the CBD – an satisfying anchor to the day.
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
To build my businesses to a size where our help impacts three thousand people a week and we are recognized as offering the best advice, support and innovation to the NZ hospitality industry
To have an exhibition of my sculptures 2023.
To write another book on connection for business success.
What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?
Embrace your differences as a unique gift, learn to develop them to be at the core of your identity and your daily success.
How do you stay motivated?
I feed my dreams and goals every day with a visualization process and then every day I take as much action as is possible to make them my reality. Staying healthy, fit, and enjoying the opportunities of each day is a gift so I just try to nurture myself through my fascination of possibility.
If you didn’t need money, what would you do?
I believe I would do exactly the same things that I am currently doing and I think needing money is a good thing that helps galvanize focus and is a reference and context to stimulate our actions.
What is the secret to success?
To give more than you take, always show up at 100% plus, find a way to be part of the solution and not the problem, laugh and love without restriction.
What is the worst mistake you’ve made and how did you fix it?
I have made many mistakes but it is hard to single out a worst one? They all some how end up as a positive even if you can’t see that at the time. I found that once I owned the mistake it was much easier to rectify and looking back they always make the best stories.
What is your advice for people to fund their dream?
Invest time in visualizing your dreams as already having come true relentlessly every day. Invest as much time as you can make available to take small accumulative actions every day. In the beginning this may be as little as 10 minutes, but fear not it is the compounding effect of everyday action that is the real power.
What is the best bit of advice, or quote, that resonates with you?
If you believe you can, you can and if you believe you can’t, you can’t. Success is with in the reach of everyone.
What’s your favorite restaurant?
Currently Ada Restaurant at the Convent Hotel, Great South Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland.
How do you keep up to date with current affairs?
I subscribe to a couple of innovation and break through, online information feeds and I watch the news a couple of times a week.
What is the secret of living a longer, more successful life?
I aren’t sure I know but it appears to have something to do with a positive open mind, courage to live your truth and owning your circumstance. Abundance of self-belief, not over eating and plenty of physical exercise and the desire to keep learning new things.
What makes you feel alive?
I am sure gratitude, practiced as a daily ritual inspires me to appreciate what a gift my health and life is.
