Morph The Olly
Ever since skating became the cool thing to do in the late 40’s, skateboarding has been a much loved pastime for young folk alike. The trusty design has ebbed and flowed to meet the needs of the riders with bigger noses and kicktails, deck upturns, and concaves.
Industrial Taiwenese designer, Chia-Wei Chen wanted to take that one step further, releasing designs for a skateboard that may not be what riders fully expect. Currently in development stage, aptly titled The Board, it experiments with different graphics and colours in a ‘complex and dynamic structure’. That structure? Try a fully adaptable design that switches into a complete circle using the 57 interlocking hinges. The plan is to open-source develop it as a DIY kit for 3D printers too. The Board even won the Golden Pin Concept Design Award 2019 and has been nominated for the Best Design Prize this December.
