Paul McCartney on Bringing Back Lenon
Using an old tape recording of John Lennon and a dash of AI McCartney is hoping to bring an impossible track to life. Reportedly pulled from ‘Now and Then,’ a 1978 Lennon recording made shortly before his death has become the basis for a track the Beatles have chased for years. Last time the band tried it was in 1996 but was shut down by George Harrison who just wasn’t happy with it. Now with the help of AI the audio can be cleaned up, removing background audio and separating Lennon’s voice from the scruffy recording, bringing it up (fingers crossed) to studio quality.
McCartney has been made aware of what AI can do after people showed him his tracks sung by a completely AI version of Lennon. “It’s kind of scary but exciting, because it’s the future,” he told the BBC. “We’ll just have to see where that leads”.
