While we can trace the history of Bollinger back to the 14th and 15th centuries the first time the name appears officially in relation to champagne is in 1829, and since then has been a mainstay in the champagne world.
This long history is something that needs to be constantly safeguarded, not only through the maintaining of quality and not resting on one’s laurels (or grapes), but also through using sustainable processes.
In 2014 Bollinger became the first house to obtain a certification of “Sustainable Viticulture In Champagne” after following 125 voluntary commitments including vine training, phytosanitary protection, the use of fertilizers, soil maintenance, waste management, landscape preservation and biodiversity.
Bollinger is found throughout over 100 countries in the world, offering everyone a taste of the very best France has to offer. It’s so good in fact that when it arrived on British shores Queen Victoria awarded it the Royal Warrant as the official supplier to the British Royal Family in 1884, a warrant it holds to this day. It might be this endorsement that made it’s movement into the commonwealth countries like Australia and here in New Zealand an easy one.
72 years after Queen Victoria left her seal of approval Ian Flemning would immortalize Bollinger in the hands of James Bond in his novel Diamonds are Forever. This is a partnership that also remains to this day, with various vintages of the Grande Année appearing alongside both Brosnan and Daniel Craig in their turns as Bond.
There aren’t many beverages you could say has been enjoyed by Kings, Queens, spy’s, and your possible descendants, but Champagne Bollinger is one of them.
