Shows That Should Have Been 1 Season
Stranger Things
The first season of Stranger Things was a perfect package, it was a tight story and a perfect limited series for Netflix to drop at Halloween. While the proceeding seasons have had excellent moments and expanded the lore of the world well, it could have ended at the first season and gone down as a legendary mini-series. Instead it’s going to get flogged till it’s child actors are running around in their forties, pretending that the early 00s culture they’ll be inhabiting in the series at that time will be worth salivating over.
Westworld
Westworld’s first season was an immersive experience, with some real twists and turns, and an incredible reveal at the end. It set such a high bar for itself that it was never ever going to clear that bar ever again. It bit off more than it could chew, and would try audiences patience in season two, as it expanded the world further. It saw a massive drop off before it was finally canned after its fourth season.
The Witcher
Both Westworld and The Witcher relied on twisty timelines to make their simple plots seem more complicated than they really were. The First season of The Witcher was universally loved and even came with it’s own annoyingly catchy song. Unfortunately the writers flew too close to the sun openly mocking the idea of following the critically acclaimed source material. Lead Actor Henry Cavill, who’s also a mega-fan of the series, wasn’t keen on that idea and bailed. Liam Hemsworth is picking up the mantel but perhaps the series was best left with just a single season.
Now don’t get me wrong. The story of The Witcher deserves a full cinematic exploration, but what we got didn’t deserve more than one season.
Edit: It seems Netflix has gotten the memo on how badly they pooped the bed, and are now cancelling the show.
