Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and all the Movies You Need to See This Christmas
Get ready for the final final showdown between the Resistance and the First Order in the most ancient of match ups. Their weapons are the generations of knowledge that have led up to this moment and the skills they’ve picked up in their journey across the stars.
We’re also left with the hint that maybe no ones truly gone, especially with a title like The Rise of Skywalker.
This is going to be the longest Star Wars film to date, running for 155 minutes. That’s just 3 minutes longer than The Last Jedi but still. There’s a lot of planets to visit and massive set piece moments to trigger before we can call it a day on this galaxy far, far away. Whatever the case, this movie is set to put a bow on the Skywalker dynasties saga once and for all. But when something is directed by JJ Abrams, who knows what will happen at the end.
Disney bravely heralds that “the saga will end”, while everyone in the audience plasters on their best skeptical face. Sure, there’s going to be new Star Wars until the end of civilisation, but for now we can enjoy the final chapter in this, the third Star Wars trilogy to dance before us. Plenty of fans were upset by the last movie, as they were for the one before, and the one before that. But we all know, you’re going to go see it anyway. You don’t need me to convince you. Admit it!
Doctor Sleep
Stitching together the events from Kubricks The Shining horror director Mike Flanagan stitches together the books and movies masterfully in what he describes “the same universe.” Ewan McGregor plays the Danny Torrance, the kid from The Shining, chased by a bunch of immortality hunters. It’s complicated alright, I can’t fit it all in to this tiny text box.
Ford V. Ferrari
Directed by James Mangold (Logan, Walk the Line) Matt Damon & Christian Bale take on the roles of American automotive designer, Carroll Shelby, and loose cannon British race car driver, Ken Miles, in their legendary fight to create a car for Ford that can knock Ferrari off its perch. It all comes to a head at Le Mans in France in 1966. This film is already winning crowds! Check it out!
Charlie’s Angels
A new set of Angels are continuing the legacy (read: not a reboot), this time in the form of Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott (Aladdin) & newbie Ella Balinska. A dangerous technology is uncovered and the Angels must assemble to protect society. Presumably they’re shutting down Facebook. Written and directed by Elizabeth Banks (Hunger Games), she gets backup by executive producer Drew Barrymore.
