Statuesque Form
One day some ancient Romans found some brilliant white marble in the quarries of Massa and Carrara, a small province in Tuscany. They started to dig it out, and to this day the Apuan Alps continue to be carved out with the raw materials ending up in the form of some of the most famous marble statues we admire to this day.
Athlete Marzio Nardia is climbing one of the bizarre pieces of the landscape the mining has left behind, accompanied by photographer Federico Ravassard in an attempt to shine a light on the effects the mining has had on the geography. Everything you see is man-made, including the lake water that can’t drain away.
