Style News in the Director’s Chair
Pharrell Williams is either everywhere, or nowhere at once. Remember exactly ten years ago when he seemed to be in everybody’s music videos (Daft Punk, Robin Thicke)? Then put himself in a fridge for a decade to maintain freshness? Well he’s out now and last issue we reported that he was collaborating with the MONCLER MAYA 70th anniversary collections. This month he’s gone stratospheric, becoming the Men’s Creative Director for Louis Vuitton.
Pharrell embodies style and vision across multiple mediums of expression, so it only seems natural that he’d be put at the helm of such a prestigious fashion house.
“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director,” said Pietro Beccari, CEO and Chairman of Louis Vuitton. “His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”
Monti Castello – Made in Italy
The Italians use the French term ‘pochette’ to differentiate them from the ‘fazzoletto’. In English too, the practical ‘handkerchief’, should not be confused with the delicate square of silk that serves purely to elevate the aesthetics of one’s jacket – the ‘pocket square’.
From parrots to paisley, terrazzo to tropicana, the plethora of designs is paralleled by the breadth of the colour palette.
With detailed printing on light-weight silk, Monti Castello is renowned for its abundant collections of limited-edition pochettes, offering an unlimited opportunity to fancy up your outfit. With traditionally rolled edges, they can be pouched from the centre or fluffed more effervescently with their rustic borders on display.
Available in good independent men’s stores.
Rodd & Gunn x Gilbert
A collaboration between New Zealand Menswear label Rodd & Gunn and Gilbert Rugby was not what I had on my checklist for this year, but it’s a welcome surprise nonetheless. The collection has a number of pieces which are perfect coming into Autumn. Our personal favourites is this wool Kingsholm Coat made of premium fabric milled in Florence lined with Rodd & Gunn heritage plaid, and Gilbert badged interior.
Pictured is it being paired with a cotton and wool Lansdowne Road Sweat.
